Mr. Raymond “Ray” Allen Evans, 79, Local Businessman from Kincaid, IL passed away peacefully at home at 5:43 pm Wednesday, September 26, 2012.
Born November 13, 1932 to Clarence and Neta (Jett) Evans in rural Greenville, IL LaGrange Township, Ray attended Greenville Schools and enlisted in the Air Force in 1950, serving 4 years. Raymond married Ava Jean Kemmerling May 9, 1953 at the Kincaid United Methodist Church by Rev. Hazel Beth Hastings.
He was affiliated with Midland United Methodist Church and was a member of the American Legion in Kincaid, IL.
Mr. Evans owned and operated Ray’s Service Station and Garage for over 30 years, also the Kincaid Car Wash and Divernon Car Wash. Most recently operated Kincaid Food Mart. He and his wife own The Country Place Antique Shop in Divernon, IL. In his earlier married life he farmed for several years. Ray loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years Ava Jean (Kemmerling) Evans, 3 children Denise, Kevin and John all of Kincaid, IL. 1 grandson Jarrod Burney, 3 granddaughters Ashly Heiple, Abby Evans, Lauren Evans, 2 great granddaughters Brogan Burney and Rylie Burney, 2 sisters Donna Rathbone of Sherman, IL and Ann Gasser of Greenville, IL and 2 brother in laws Marvin Kemmerling and Melvin (Ione) Kemmerling along with several nieces, nephews and many friends.
His parents, 3 sisters Fae, Florine and Hazel and 3 brothers Darrel, William and Ivan preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 am Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid. Pastor Linda Vonck officiated. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery, rural Edinburg, IL. Family and friends were invited to the American Legion in Kincaid for a dinner and fellowship following the funeral services. Visitation for Mr. Evans was held from 6 to 8 pm Friday, Sept 28, at Masterson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Parkinson’s Disease Research, American Cancer Society or Midland United Methodist Church.
